Nursery Location
The nursery is located 20 km from Prague, near the R10 (E65) expressway towards Mladá Boleslav, not far from the town of Brandýs nad Labem-Stará Boleslav. From Stará Boleslav, take the 3rd class road towards Káraný. After about 3 km, turn left onto a paved forest road and after another 100 m, you will arrive at the nursery premises.
Nursery Description
The center manages the Brandýs nad Labem (Zelená Bouda) nurseries. The total area is 33 ha, of which 23 ha is the production area. The Brandýs forest nurseries are situated at an altitude of 170 m above sea level. Individual nursery plots range from 1 to 3.5 ha in size. Each plot is bordered by forest screens, which ensure a suitable microclimate for growing forest tree species. The light sandy soil has a beneficial effect on root system development. Seedlings from this nursery establish very well on poor (nutrient-deficient) sites.
The nursery facilities include 1 ha of polytunnels and a greenhouse. Central irrigation using water from the Jizera River is utilized. The Brandýs nad Labem nurseries were established in the 1980s on cleared forest land. The Brandýs nad Labem nursery grows bare-root forest seedlings using complex seven-row technology and seedlings under film covers. We also produce container-grown forest seedlings and, to a limited extent, ornamental woody plants.
